3 Hawaii football players named to Mountain West preseason all-conference team
LAS VEGAS >> Three University of Hawaii football players today were named to the 2021 Mountain West’s preseason all-conference team.
All-purpose player Calvin Turner, cornerback Cortez Davis and linebacker Darius Muasau were selected in polling of 25 media members. The announcement was made at the Mountain West Football Media Days.
In his first UH season in 2020, Turner was used as a running back, receiver, wildcat quarterback and kickoff returner. Turner led the Warriors in all-purpose yards (133.3 per game) and touchdowns (11). He was selected as a punt returner, a position he will add to his duties this coming season.
“It’s crazy, to me, to think they put me at something I haven’t played yet,” Turner said. “It feels good to be on the list. The goal is to win a championship so more of my teammates can get on the end-of-the-year list.”
Turner decided not to apply for the 2021 NFL Draft to return to UH for what is termed a “super senior” season. The NCAA granted players an extra season because of the pandemic.
“The main reason I came back was to win a championship, and bring a championship back to the fans of Hawaii,” Turner said. “They’ve been great over the years, and deserve one.”

Davis is the best Warriors’ cover defender. He also has gained notice for his blitzing and open-field tackling.
“That’s some stuff we’ve been working on since I got here — my technique, my stance, and even my tackling,” said Davis, a fifth-year senior. Davis praised head coach Todd Graham, who also serves as the defensive coordinator.
Muasau, a third-year sophomore, led the FBS in solo tackles (68). He had 104 overall tackles in nine games.
