Fire engulfs Waimanalo home overnight
Honolulu firefighters extinguished a blaze in Waimanalo that fully engulfed a single-story residential dwelling early this morning.
According to HFD, six units with 22 personnel responded to a 911 call at 12:02 a.m. today about a structure fire, arriving eight minutes later to discover a residence at 41-664 Kalanianaole Highway was completely involved and quickly initiating an offensive attack to protect neighboring homes downwind from wind-driven embers.
The fire was successfully contained to the original structure and was declared under control at 12:24 a.m. and fully extiguished at 1:19 a.m.
HFD said a 32-year-old male neighbor, who lives downwind of the home that was on fire, experienced smoke-inhalation related symptoms during the incident and required medical treatment at the scene. HFD transferred care of the man to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at 12:56 a.m.
A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the fire’s origin and cause; a damage estimate is not currently available.
