Dennis Mendoza, founder and leader of the group known first as the Nomads and then as Aura, one of Hawaii’s most popular Top 40 bands of the 1970s and ’80s, will be remembered with a celebration of life hosted by his children, his seven surviving siblings and several close friends at 7:30 p.m. July 30, in Honolulu.

Mendoza died unexpectedly May 19 at his West Oahu home. He was 70.

Members of the family expect to play a memorial concert during the celebration.

The celebration is open to the public subject to Tier 5 regulations. To ensure compliance with all COVID-19 safety guidelines, the family is asking well-wishers to RSVP to his children Denny Jay, 216-3429, and Dawnie, 702-497-4323, or his sister, Christine Mendoza Olanda, 368-4108, for the location and for confirmation of the safety guidelines.

All guests will have their temperature checked on arrival and be required to provide contact information. Guests who do not have proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test will be required to wear a mask; masks will be provided as needed. Pre-packed food will be provided for take-home.

Anyone wishing to perform or share their memories can sign up when they RSVP.
