Koko Head trail reopens after bee removal
The Koko Crater Tramway reopened to the public after a brief closure today to remove an active bee hive in a wood trestle, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation said.
DPR staff found the hive’s queen bee and relocated both it and the hive to an undisclosed location.
The crew also sealed a void in the affected wooden plank to prevent bees from recolonizing, but DPR warned “there may be some remnant bee stragglers left behind,” and encouraged hikers to use caution in the area over the next few days.
