After multiple delays, the massive Resorts World Las Vegas opened to big crowds last week on the north end of the Strip at the site of the former Stardust and aborted Echelon Place project.

The $4.3 billion, 3,500-room resort features more than 40 food and beverage outlets, 70,000 square feet of retail space, an elevated pool complex and a 117,000-square-foot casino that’s being touted as “the most technologically advanced casino” ever built.

The 5,000-seat theater, which will host an all-star lineup that includes Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Celine Dion, will debut in November. It’s the first new property to open on the Strip since the Cosmopolitan in 2010.

Downtown concerts: The Downtown Rocks concert series kicked off this weekend and runs on select weekends through Nov. 6.

Featured bands include Dokken, 3 Doors Down, Seether and George Thorogood. All concerts are free to attend.

Bacchanal Buffet changes: The Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace is now open seven days a week.

It still offers dinner only from 4 to 10 p.m. for $64.99, except Friday to Sunday, after a recent price increase to $74.99.

Top shrimp returns: The best shrimp cocktail deal in town is back at the Skyline, a small casino on Boulder Highway, about 10 miles south of the Strip.

The shrimp cocktail was $2.25 when it was put on ice during the shutdown, but is back for just $1.50. It contains nine to 10 medium­-sized shrimp and is served 24/7 at the main bar.

Question: Did the recent heat wave in Las Vegas set an all-time temperature record?

Answer: Not quite. The temp made it to 116 degrees during the heat wave, just short of the record of 117 degrees. That mark has been hit four times since 1937, with the most recent being in 2017. Two of the four were recorded in July, so the record might still be set this year. In the meantime, it’s cooled down to the low 100s.
