Honolulu police are searching for the driver of a 2004 Nissan Armada after a two-car crash in the westbound lanes of Moanalua Freeway near Fort Shafter on Saturday.

Multiple lanes in both directions of the roadway were closed for more than three hours as police investigated the crash, which was reported around 12:30 p.m. Saturday and sent a 46-year-old female who was driving a 2018 Mitsubishi MPVH to an area hospital, where she was listed in serious condition Sunday.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the crash initially damaged a concrete barrier separating the westbound and eastbound lanes of the freeway, scattering debris into the eastbound lanes and damaging another four vehicles heading east. After the collision, the woman’s vehicle overturned and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, striking another two vehicles and damaging them in the process.

Along with the 46-year-old, who was treated for facial injuries, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said city paramedics and emergency medical technicians evaluated nine patients. The other eight refused transportation to an emergency room.

Police said the driver of the Nissan fled the scene on foot.
