Motorcyclist, 56, dies after crash on Pali Highway

A 56-year-old motorcyclist died today after colliding with another vehicle on the Pali Highway, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

HPD said the crash occurred at around 9 a.m. when the male motorcyclist, who was traveling Kailua-bound on Pali Highway, collided with a 73-year-old driver, who was traveling town-bound on the Pali, tried to make a left turn into Saint Stephen Diocesan Center.

Following the collision, the motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected on the roadway and EMS transported him in critical condition to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 73-year-old was also taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to HPD.

Though the investigation is ongoing, HPD said that speed appears to be a contributing factor. HPD said that this is the 14th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, nearly triple the amount this time last year.
