E-bike rider, 68, critical after car strike in Kaimuki

A 68-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car while crossing Waialae Avenue on his e-bike Saturday, according to Honolulu police.

Police said at about 3 p.m. Saturday, the man was reportedly attempting to cross Waialae outside of a marked crosswalk near the Public Storage facility when he was struck.

The driver of the car, a 38-year-old man, and his juvenile passenger, were not injured in the collision.

The bicyclist was ejected onto the roadway and suffered critical injuries.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene at Waialae and Kapiolani Boulevard, where paramedics administered advanced life support to the man and took him to an emergency room in critical condition.

Police said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.
