Letter: Ala Wai bridge is a great idea, but keep it simple

I think the proposed pedestrian bridge over the Ala Wai Canal is a great idea. It’s a sensible plan with a simple goal: to allow pedestrians and bicyclists a short direct route to Waikiki.

Keeping simplicity in mind — and this is directed at the city Department of Transportation Services — a low-key, aesthetically pleasing and easily maintained bridge is the way to go.

Low maintenance is key.

The few renderings of Ala Pono that I’ve seen have been way over the top, the total opposite of low-key. Keep it simple, fellas.
