Honolulu women, some 300 of them, carry anti-strike signs tacked to brooms on a daylong picket line in front of ILWU headquarters at Pier 11. The signs call on striking stevedores to “oust” their leaders.

STARADVERTISER / JULY 29, 1970

The world’s largest sailing ship cruises past Waikiki en route to Pier 8 and a weeklong Hawaii visit. The Argentine frigate Libertad has a crew of 357 of whom 108 are naval academy cadets. It is 300 feet long and has a displacement of 4,150 tons.

Seven years after selling The Dunes nightclub, Jack Cione repurchased the business when the new owner failed to keep the adult entertainment venue’s fire burning and bellied up a couple of years ago. Cione stands outside the club near the airport, which reopened this week as The Dunes Again.

One of the attractions at the Honolulu Motorama, an auto show at the Neal Blaisdell Center exhibition hall, is a 1985 Corvette called Monster Vette. The 12,000-pound car goes as fast as 8 mph in its lowest gear.

A customer buys reindeer tendons in the Bo Sau Tong herb shop on North King Street in the Aala triangle area. The proprietor, facing a possible relocation, does not want to move because of high rents elsewhere in the city and most of his customers live in the Aala area.
