Man, 78, critical after moped-vehicle collision in Makiki
Honolulu police said a 78-year-old man was in critical condition after a moped-vehicle collision Wednesday morning in Makiki.
The Honolulu Police Department said shortly before 10 a.m., the man was riding a moped eastbound on South King Street when he attempted to change lanes and collided with a vehicle.
As a result, he was ejected onto the roadway and suffered head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
A 47-year-old man driving the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene, and was not injured.
Earlier Wednesday morning, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said the man in his 70s was rear-ended while riding the moped at South King and Piikoi streets.
Paramedics administered life-saving treatment, and took him to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors at this time.
