Water main break prompts partial closure of Nimitz near Alakawa

UPDATE: 5 p.m.

Two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Nimitz Highway near ALakawa are now reopened.

Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews are continuing to repair a 16-inch water main break.

“Repairs are anticipated to be ongoing overnight through tomorrow. Motorists are highly advised to plan accordingly for the morning commute and to anticipate delays. There will be no contraflow on Nimitz Highway tomorrow (June 10, 2024) due to the ongoing main break repair,” according to the city.

EARLIER COVERAGE

One westbound lane of Nimitz Highway near Alakawa Street has reopened and the other lanes remain closed until further notice due to a 16-inch water main break.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes. Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews are responding.

A water wagon is available in the parking area fronting of New Eagle Cafe.
