Hotel union workers gather in Waikiki to kickoff bargaining

More than 1,500 workers gathered in Waikiki to celebrate International Worker’s Day and demand the hotel industry “Respect Our Work” and “Respect Our Guests” by raising wages and reversing staffing cuts that have led to painful working conditions and reductions in guest services and amenities. The action kicks off a key bargaining year for Local 5 hotels in Hawaii, where 17 contracts covering over 7,000 hotel workers are set to expire. The bulk of these contracts expire at the end of June across three islands.
