Federal government lists 8 Hawaiian birds as extinct

                                The poouli, or Melamprosops phaeosoma, was a stocky Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to Maui. It is one of the eight Hawaiian bird species the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is delisting from the Endangered Species Act due to extinction.
