Woman, 73, dies following pedestrian collision in Kailua

A 73-year-old woman died following a pedestrian collision in Kailua this evening.

The woman was hit by a vehicle at around 6 p.m. in the area of Kalanianaole Highway near Kanapuu Drive, the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services reported.

A brown colored Honda MPVH, operated by a 71-year-old male, was traveling northbound on Kalanianaole Highway, according to the Honolulu Police Department. As the vehicle entered the Kanapuu Drive intersection, it struck a female pedestrian who was crossing from west to east on Kalanianaole Highway.

The operator of the Honda vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene.

The female pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. While at the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.

This was the 47th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 37 at this same time last year.
