Robert Castro, right, led a group of visitors past the Waipahu Memorial Stone. The plaque reads: "Dedicated to the immigrant workers of Oahu Sugar Co. who had no families to tend to the graves. Originally placed at Oahu Sugar Co. cemetery next to Waipahu Elementary School, Waikele Road. This Stone was hand carved in the 1930's by a skillful Japanese immigrant. Calligrapher Mr. Toraichi Okita - Carver Mr. Zenichi Karioka. The inscription reads: 'Fellow Countrymen who have gone before us. This tower is erected for you.' This stone was re-erected on March 4, 1989, by 'Pacific Construction Co.' Plaque donated by 'Waipahu High School Class of 1959' - Okita Family Karioka Family."
