The Hawaii Rush 08 boys and girls soccer teams went undefeated to win their divisions at the Surf Cup held in Oceanside and Del Mar, Calif.
The Rush 08 boys, coached by Shane Shimatsu and Duane Kuni, gave up one goal in five matches in the 16-team Boys U14 Super Black division. The team went 2-0-1 to finish atop its group in pool play then shut out the Central Washington Sounders 2-0 in the semifinals and claimed the title with a 2-1 win over Rebels Soccer Club of Southern California in the final on Monday.
The Rush girls, coached by Anthony Makue, Tiffany Makue and Nathan Meyer, outscored its opponents 13-1 in the U14 Super Black division. The Rush girls posted a 2-0 win over the LA Surf Girls Academy in the semifinals and closed with a 2-0 win over Rebels ECNL of California in Monday’s final. Hawaii Surf SC went 3-0 to finish atop its group in pool play and advanced to the semifinals against Rebels ECNL.
