Gov. Ige outlined a four-point “layered strategy” for reopening schools:

>> “First, we are promoting COVID-19 vaccinations among all staff and eligible students 12 years of age and older,” he said.

>> Secondly, he said students and school staff are directed to stay home when sick.

>> Correct and consistent masking is Ige’s third point.

>> Lastly, Ige emphasized regular hand-washing or the use of hand sanitizer for preventative hygiene.

Gov. David Ige is scheduled to hold a news conference today at 1 p.m. to discuss public school COVID safety precautions.

Dr. Elizabeth Char, Hawaii Department of Health director, and Keith Hayashi, the interim superintendent of the Hawaii Department of Education are also scheduled to speak.
