Statistics of players with Hawaii ties in professional baseball through Friday’s games. Players who are on the injured or suspended list and whose stats have not changed since last week are not listed.:
>> Codie Paiva pitched a complete game against Washington on Thursday, the first of his professional career. He allowed only four hits and one walk and pitched into the eighth inning for the first time with his team facing a doubleheader the next day.
“It was the best performance we’ve had from a starting pitcher all year, by far,” Quebec manager and former UH player Pat Scalabrini told the Observer-reporter.
>> Everything clicked for Jeremy Wu-Yelland on Friday, as he started a win over Fredericksburg with four perfect innings with seven strikeouts. It was the third time this year he has thrown four no-hit innings in a game.
>> Tanner Nishioka delivered a walkoff single on Friday to beat Harrisburg in 10 innings after the batter before him was intentionally walked. Nishioka had five hits in the four-game series with the Senators and is hitting .324 in July after struggling to a .174 average in June to drop his average to .205.
>> Steven Wright was moved to the bullpen two weeks ago by Indianapolis, but it hasn’t helped. He gave up eight runs on eight hits and five walks in a loss on Wednesday, the most he has given up in a game since he allowed 10 in a win over the Seattle Mariners in 2018.
>> Kyle Dowdy had an eventful week, blowing back-to-back saves but vulturing a victory to limit the damage to one loss. Dowdy hasn’t earned a save since 2018.
>> Kean Wong’s roller coaster ride continued this week, being sent down to Triple-A for the third time. Wong lasted only three days in his latest stint on the Angels’ roster, and is hitting .175 in 40 at-bats for the big club.
>> The Ariziona Diamondbacks placed Josh Rojas on the injured list on Saturday with a dislocated finger on his left hand. Rojas suffered the injury sliding into second base on Wednesday and hasn’t played since.
>> Kolten Wong has hit safely in all five games since his return from a calf injury, sparked by a three-hit day against Cincinnati in his first game back.
