California visitor, 47, airlifted from Maunawili Falls Trail
Honolulu firefighters today rescued a visitor from California who injured her knee while hiking on the Maunawili Falls Trail.
At 11:46 a.m. the Honolulu Fire Department received a call about an injured hiker, a 47-year-old woman, who was on the trail with four companions when she injured her right knee.
Two rescue specialists from HFD hiked up the trail via the Maleko Street entrance and made contact with the hiker at 11:59 a.m. They put her on a stretcher and airlifted her via Air 1 to a landing zone near Maunawili District Park.
The woman was then transferred to the care of the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at 12:36 p.m.
The other hikers were not injured, and walked back down the trail accompanied by HFD personnel.
