This Pullman car of the Reading Railroad in Philadelphia is blackout-ready on May 11, 1942. The windows are painted with a four-inch black strip so that when shades are lowered no inside light is visible from the outside. Special switches enable the train crew to dim lights in each car. Doors in the vestibule also have been painted black save for an inch in diameter peep hole in the center.
