Nov. 1, 2020. Empty chairs — 228 in all — were placed in front of Central Union Church on All Saints Day in memoriam for the people of Hawaii who had died from COVID-19 as of Nov. 1. In addition to the vacant chairs, the church tolled its bell 228 times over the course of 15 minutes.
