Hawaii island police charged a 30-year-old Mountain View man with murder, attempted murder and weapons charges Monday in two separate incidents this month in Hilo.

Jarvis Rockwell Leung Hung Boots was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Benjamin Craig Davidson of Hilo.

Boots was also charged with first-degree attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony, as well as two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, and multiple firearms charges and a prohibited knives charge.

Davidson, the father of three young children, was working at the Puainako Town Center when he was on-duty at the time of the fatal shooting. He was seated in a vehicle when he was shot multiple times.

Davidson was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy Friday revealed he died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.

In a second earlier incident, police said a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times at the Papaikou Transfer Station after 1 p.m. on Dec. 2. He had life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hilo Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is recovering. The suspect shot at, but missed, a 50-year-old man, who heard the initial gunshots and went to render aid to the victim

Police arrested Boots Saturday evening following a two-day islandwide manhunt. His vehicle was recovered as evidence. Detectives obtained a warrant and recovered numerous firearms, ammunition and other prohibited weapons from Boots’ vehicle on Sunday.

Boots is being held without bail pending his court appearance Tuesday in South Hilo District Court.
