Las Vegas Advisor: Nevada extends restrictions, capacity limits
Elevated restrictions related to coronavirus precautions in Nevada could have been lifted this week, but instead have been extended until Jan. 15.
The conditions that will affect most visitors are a 25%-capacity limit at casinos, restaurants and bars; a requirement that reservations be made to eat at a restaurant; and a more stringent enforcement of mask rules, especially in the casinos.
The most obvious negative effect of these restrictions has been the reclosing of several shows that attempted to play to reduced audiences, but now can’t justify trying to operate with the new capacity reductions.
Rio reopening: Picked by many as the casino least likely to return, the Rio will reopen Tuesday. Initially, the hotel will accommodate guests Thursdays through Mondays only, though the casino will be open 24/7. The restaurants, bars and fitness center will open with the casino.
Virgin delayed: Virgin Hotels has announced that it will delay its originally scheduled grand opening date of Jan. 15, due to continued pandemic-related uncertainties. A new opening date has not been announced.
Half-price at South Point: It wasn’t a certainty given the current reality, but as it does every year during the holidays, South Point is running its “Pay Less With Your Points” promotion, during which almost everything is half price when you use club points. This includes all restaurants and bars, rooms, shows, bingo, bowling, movies and the gift shop. The promo runs through Dec. 30, which is a week longer than usual.

Answer: What’s being referred to as a “hybrid online/live Main Event” is currently underway. Players competed online in separate domestic and in international tournaments, with the final tables of each being contested live. The U.S. final table will be played Dec. 28 at the Rio. The winners of each tournament will then meet in a heads-up match on Dec. 30 at the Rio to determine the champion.
