U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has taken another eye- opening stance by introducing bills to ban late-term abortions and “protect born-alive survivors of abortions.”
Gabbard’s announcement on Wednesday follows her joint introduction of a bill last week that would bar transgender women from participating in Title IX sports, saying they have an unfair biological advantage. Title IX is the landmark legislation authored by Hawaii’s late U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink granting equality to girls and women in high school and college sports.
Gabbard’s latest bills would outlaw abortions on pregnancies later than 20 weeks. Exceptions would be made in cases involving “severe irreversible injuries, and for cases of rape, or incest against a minor.”
The other bill would “protect pain-capable babies, unless the mother is at risk of losing her life or suffering severe irreversible injuries, and to protect babies born alive after an attempted abortion by providing the same life- saving protections extended to every newborn.”
