Police arrest suspect, 31, in Liliha manslaughter case

UPDATE: 10 p.m.

Honolulu police arrested a 31-year-old male in the Liliha area Tuesday at about 8 p.m. for suspicion of manslaughter in the death of a 58-year-old man early Monday morning.

Charges are pending.

Honolulu CrimeStoppers thanked the public for their help in locating the man.

Honolulu police and CrimeStoppers is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a manslaughter investigation involving the death of a 58-year-old man in Liliha.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Blaine Baker of Honolulu. The exact cause of death is pending.

Police said the victim later identified as Baker and a male suspect were involved in a physical altercation in the driveway of an apartment complex at 1438 Liliha St. at about 1:20 a.m. Monday.

The two men later separated.

Police said Baker was walking away when he collapsed.

He was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition but his condition worsened and he was pronounced dead.

Police released surveillance video footage today of the suspect fleeing northbound on Liliha Street toward North School Street.

He is described to be a man in his 20s to 30s, 5 feet, 3 inches to 5 feet, 6 inches and approximately 150 to 160 pounds. The suspect was wearing a yellow and blue windbreaker, dark-colored shorts, dark-colored baseball cap with light-colored lettering and slippers at the time.
