Off the News: COVID-19 outbreak at Saguaro

A recent mass testing for COVID-19 infection at Saguaro Correctional Center in Arizona turned up alarming results, with a total of 317 Hawaii inmates testing positive — topping the late August outbreak total at Oahu Community Correctional Center, which stands as the largest in-state cluster to date.

Of the 1,011 Hawaii inmates tested at Saguaro last week, 37% were placed in medical isolation; and those who tested negative were quarantined.

Easing the anxiety a bit, the Hawaii Department of Public Safety points out Saguaro does not have an overcrowding problem and, therefore, can provide adequate space for isolation and quarantine.
