A 41-year-old Ocean View man was shot in the chest this morning on a roadway in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision, Hawaii County police said in a news release.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning the shooting to contact them, and have classified the case as an attemted murder.

Patrol officers got the call at 8:30 a.m. and responded to the 92-8000 block of King Kamehameha Bouleard in the subdivision and discovered the man with a gunshot wound to his chest.

The man was treated by medics and taken to the Kona Community Hospital for further treatment.
