Registered voters should have already received their ballot packets in the mail for Hawaii’s vote-by-mail election. The packet will contain a ballot for the Nov. 3 general election, a ballot secrecy sleeve, voting instructions and a postage-paid return ballot envelope for mailing via the U.S. Postal Service. If you didn’t receive a ballot in the mail, check your voter registration status at elections.hawaii.gov and/or contact your County Elections Division for a replacement.
Here are the important points:
>> Signed ballot return envelopes containing voted ballots must be received by the county clerk’s Elections Division by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots received after the deadline will not be accepted — regardless of postmark.
>> State elections officials are advising voters to drop their ballots in the mail no later than Oct. 27 to ensure delivery by the deadline. Voters may also bring their ballot to a ballot drop box at a place of deposit or voter service center. (See list of locations and hours on Page 10.)
>> Those who prefer to vote in person may do so at a voter service center. Remember: The traditional polling places used in previous Hawaii elections are now a thing of the past.
>> Voter service centers, offering accessible voting, same-day voter registration and in-person voting, will be open Oct. 20 through Nov. 2, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Nov. 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
>> For same-day registration, you must complete a voter registration affidavit form, show proof of U.S. citizenship and Hawaii residency, and be at least 18 years of age.
>> For information: Visit elections.hawaii.gov or call 453-VOTE (8683); on the neighbor islands call toll-free 800-442-VOTE (8683).
Places of deposit
Voters may drop off their ballot return envelopes at ballot drop boxes to be collected by the county clerk’s Elections Division. Ballot drop boxes also are available at voter service centers at dates and times listed at right.
