For 11 Waimanalo families, this temporary wooden foot bridge across the Olohana Stream has been the only way to access their homes since a flash flood last month tore down the bridge on a private road into the area. The city has approved construction of a permanent structure, whose cost will be roughly split between residents and the city.

Nationally known astrologer Lillian Bono of Makaha pooh-poohed a psychic prediction last month that the south shores of Oahu and Maui would be engulfed by a tidal wave tomorrow. Bono, who writes two columns for the monthly American Astrology magazine, urged people not to panic. She said Penny Sarama, the visiting psychic who had the revelation of a tower of water gushing over island buildings, probably read somewhere that there would be a new moon on the date.

Weston’s first Hawaiian song, “The Hasegawa General Store,” is a big hit. Alvaro got together with Weston and Wayne at a recent Hollywood gathering.

The Alexander Grocery, right, back, doomed to demolition to make way for a high-rise, gets a last hurrah from thousands of students now on the lookout for the rooftop sign that disappeared Saturday night. The sign, along with other store memorabilia, was to go to Punahou School to be used at its annual carnival.
