Honolulu firefighters battle brush fire near West Loch Naval Magazine
The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a brush fire today near the intersection of Iroquois Road and West Loch Drive in the Ewa area. It was located at or near the entrance to the West Loch Naval Magazine.
Just before 11 a.m. 48 personnel arrived to fight the fire, which was 75% controlled about three hours later.
HFD spokesman Capt. Jeff Roache reported no injuries and said no structures or vehicles were damaged by the fire. The nearest structures were about four football fields away, or a quarter mile, from the blaze.
It’s not clear how many acres the brush fire burned, and HFD said it hasn’t determined what caused the fire.
However, the area has a lot of dry brush, Roache said. A golf course, beach park and Naval housing are all located in the vicinity, he added.
