STARADVERTISER / DECEMBER 10, 1964

The opening of the New Kokusai Theatre at Nuuanu and Beretania streets is scheduled for Friday. The theater has 800 seats and cost more than $500,000. The New Kokusai will show a minimum of 52 productions of Daiei Motion Picture Co. each year.

Cheerleaders from McKinley High School showed off their trophy and medals at Honolulu International Airport yesterday after winning two awards in the two-day International Open Cheerleading Championships in Nashville, Tenn. They competed against 268 cheerleading squads from 38 states. The Tigers squad includes, front row, Kim Kouchi, left, Tracey Okino, co-captains Shawn Nishida and Maggie Dela Cruz, Christine Motoyama and Mike Grim. In the back row are assistant coach Mario Fuentes, left, Misty Nakama, Trina Sakuma, Cori Miyashiro, the McKinley Tiger (Patricia Mahaulu), Lori Samuelson, Jocelyn Cabradilla, coach Gaile Sykes, Mark Anama and Russell Ho.
