These “lady sailors” have arrived in Hawaii to join 72 sister WAVES for shore duty here. The group is the
first group of WAVES, or Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, to be assigned to peacetime
duty with Pacific Fleet shore-based commands. Shown left to right at the rear of the WAVES barracks at
