Local fishermen use the Pāhonu recently. The Waimānalo Limu Hui was awarded a three-year permit to work on the restoration of the Pā (wall) at Pāhonu, a turtle enclosure originally commission by the Ali'i of Waimānalo.

Sea Life Park has partnered with Waimānalo Limu Hui providing space and eight tanks to grow three species of Limu for restoring Waimanalo Bay at Kaiona Beach at Sea Life Park. Waimānalo Limu Hui has been hosting a monthly limu planting since November 2017.
