U.S. Rep. Ed Case, a Hawaii Democrat, said today he will vote to impeach President Donald Trump later this week.

U.S. Rep. Ed Case says he will vote to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

A vote by the full House of of Representatives is expected as early as Wednesday.

Case said in a news release issued today that his decision came down to his duty to uphold the Constitution above all other interests.

“Impeachment is not a political remedy, not a criminal remedy, but a constitutional remedy,” the Hawaii Democrat said. “That we have come to this point for only the third time in our incredible history is nothing to celebrate. I sincerely hope that, whatever the outcome, we will accept this sad time for our country as a wakeup call for that better way forward we all want and deserve.”

The House, which is controlled by Democrats, needs a simple majority to pass both articles of impeachment. The votes are expected to fall largely along partisan lines.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Hawaii’s other member of the House, has not yet said how she intends to vote. Gabbard is also a candidate for the Democratic nomination to run against Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
