Blaze engulfs abandoned Kalihi home

Honolulu firefighters battled a fire that engulfed an abandoned home in Kalihi Sunday night.

Ten units with 40 firefighters responded to the fire at a single-story home at 1518 Iao Lane at about 9:15 p.m. Part of the roof collapsed as firefighters battled the blaze, said Honolulu Fire spokesman Capt. Scot Seguirant.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at about 9:30 p.m. and extinguished it by 9:45 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Squatters are known to frequent the abandoned structure, Seguirant said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
