Speed suspected in deadly Makakilo crash
Speed appears to have been a factor in a deadly crash Saturday in Makakilo, police said.
A 20-year-old woman was driving northbound on Makakilo Drive at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle, drove onto a grassy median and struck a tree, police said.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said the woman was pinned in the vehicle without signs of life and died at the scene.
The crash occurred about 11 p.m. and no other vehicles were involved.
It was the 50th traffic fatality this year compared to 60 at this time last year.
