CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police released today a sketch of a male suspect in connection with a violent purse-snatching in Moanalua Gardens.

Police said a 49-year-old Japanese visitor was walking in the parking lot at about 12:10 p.m. Thursday when the suspect ran up from behind, grabbed her purse off her shoulder and fled in an awaiting pickup truck.

The victim chased after the suspect and was run over by the truck. Police said the rear passenger tire drove over the lower half of the woman’s body and sped away.

She was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries to her lower extremities.

Police have launched an attempted murder investigation.

The suspect is described as being in his late 20s to mid-30s, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 145 pounds. He is further described as having short black short hair to his ears and a medium to dark complexion.

The perpetrator was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and dark pants at the time.

Police are also looking for the pickup truck driver who was possibly female.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
