Service restored for 911 calls by AT&T customers after brief outage
UPDATE: 4:30 p.m.
“Service has been restored for wireless customers in Hawaii who experienced service interruptions due to a traffic accident that damaged equipment in our local service provider’s network. We apologize for the inconvenience,” AT&T said in a statement this afternoon.

The Honolulu Police Department sent out a bulletin that service for 911 calls via AT&T has been restored.

The Honolulu Police Department has issued an alert, letting the public know that some AT&T customers may be experiencing difficulting calling 911.

In the event that anyone needs to call 911, the department recommends calling the nearest police station or using a phone with a different service carrier.

An AT&T media representative did not respond immediately to questions. An outage map indicated there were some outages in the Honolulu area, and some residents have posted on Twitter that they were having difficulties making phone calls.
