Powers her way to 19 points and 10 rebounds in upset of Washington

Amy Atwell powered her way to a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hawaii women’s basketball team to the program’s first road win at Washington, 62-50 on Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
Nae Nae Calhoun added 14 points and seven boards for the Rainbow Wahine (5-5), who snapped a five-game winning streak by the Huskies (6-2).
Hawaii held UW to 22.6% (19-for-84) shooting from the floor. Washington missed 12 of its last 14 shots down the stretch and was even worse from the 3-point line, making just four of 29 attempts (14%).
UH, which led by as many as 16, jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. The Huskies went more than five minutes before making their first field goal and were down 15-6 after the first quarter.
UW went on a 9-0 run to start the second quarter to gain its only lead of the game at 16-15 before Julissa Tago’s 3-pointer started Hawaii’s 7-0 run to answer.
Hawaii extended a 27-22 halftime lead to 10 at the end of the third quarter and took its biggest lead of the game at 49-36 with 9:06 remaining after Atwell’s back-to-back 3s to open the final quarter.
Hawaii made all six of its free throws in the final
minute and was 15-for-16 for the game from the free-throw line with Calhoun making all eight of her attempts.
Hawaii returns home to host Hope International on Sunday at 1 p.m.
