The ashes of USS Arizona crew member Lauren Bruner will be placed by divers in turret No. 4 of the sunken battleship and memorial during tonight’s sunset ceremony.

Just three crew members remain alive. Bruner is expected to be the 44th and last crew member to be interred on the Arizona.

The La Mirada, Calif. man died on Sept. 10 at age 98. The survivors have other burial plans.

On Dec. 7, 1941, a badly burned Bruner climbed hand over hand across a rope 70 feet above oil-soaked and fiery Pearl Harbor to the safety of another ship.

A total of 1,177 men were killed on the Arizona.
