Safeway is opening its 15th store on Oahu on Wednesday in Waipahu at Waikele Center. The storefront of the new outlet is seen in this photo.

Safeway is opening a new store Wednesday at Waikele Center in Waipahu.

The 50,978-square-foot location at 94-809 Lumiaina St. is the 15th outlet on Oahu for Safeway, a division of Albertsons Cos., based in Pleasanton, Calif.

The 24-hour grocery store with 130 employees will offer hundreds of organic and natural food options as well as fresh and prepared foods, including sushi and other Asian hot foods. It will also have an in-store pharmacy.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. before the store opens to the public at 8 a.m.

Safeway, which opened in Hawaii in 1963, operates 23 stores on Hawaii Island, Oahu, Kauai and Maui.
