Police investigated the scene of a critical pedestrian accident in Kalihi this morning.

A 57-year-old pedestrian is critically injured after being struck by a pickup truck in Kalihi during the predawn hours.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Gulick Avenue and N. School Street at about 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Capt. Robert Towne of the Kalihi Police Station said a red 2005 Toyota pickup truck operated by a 53-year-old man was making a left turn onto N. School Street from Gulick Avenue when he collided with a Kalihi woman who was walking mauka in a marked crosswalk on N. School Street.

She sustained a head injury and was taken in critical condition to The Queen’s Medical Center.

Speed, drugs and alcohol were not involved.

Towne said the pedestrian entered the crosswalk when the walking figure light was on and that the driver did not see her.

The driver remained at the scene while police conducted an investigation.
