“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
Columnist Lee Cataluna endorsed this falsehood with her sadly disappointing column (“Opinions on TMT issue don’t carry equal weight,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 21), encapsulating the most famous quote of George Orwell’s dystopian book, “Animal Farm.”
Cataluna wrote, in essence: Some Hawaiians are more equal than most Hawaiians. All Hawaiians are more equal than non-Hawaiians.
Some locals are more equal than other locals (depending on physical distance away from a location, and how Cataluna defines distance).
Power and privilege belong only with small elite group of Hawaiians, because they have the best “devotion and determination.”
Sad to see Cataluna fall so far.
