What right does the city have to rent the old Fort Street satellite city hall for a “nominal price” to a non-governmental enterprise (“New downtown satellite city hall adds services and staff,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 20)? That is prime space and could get much higher rent, which would lessen our tax bills.
And regarding short-term vacation rentals: Amend the law from 30 days to six months. The idea is to limit rentals to actual residents. You don’t find actual residents renting for less than six months; usually it’s for a year.
There are many “snowbirds” (tourists) who do stay 30 days or more. If they actually stay six full months they could qualify as part-time residents. Residential neighborhoods should be preserved exclusively for actual residents. No exceptions.
