We visit Waikiki regularly (nine times in nine years) usually for a month. Even though we are only here for 16 days this visit, every year we see huge changes.
We usually go for an early-morning swim and, of course, swim during the day, too. We have been here a week and have been shocked at how much of the beach Dive Oahu & Surf takes up with its umbrellas and beach chairs.
Although I understand that it has paid to be able to do this, and it is a business, it seems excessive. The beach is for everyone. Can beachgoers share this space also?
It’s a shame and makes Waikiki look so commercialized. We love Oahu but a lot of changes aren’t for the better.
