A writer questioned whether a New York Times commentary harshly critical of President Donald Trump was fit to print (“Newspaper offers political bias, insults,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Aug. 22). My question: Is Trump fit to lead? He describes perceived opponents in far worse terms than used by the commentary referenced — and from ire, not facts.
He’s publicly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and other strongmen leaders while criticizing and alienating leaders of our allies.
He’s picked ultra-conservative judges for the courts and named people to government positions who often oppose the purpose of the departments they’re supposed to lead. Qualifications for government leadership are: Have your praised the president and donated a lot of money? It’s who you know, not what you know.
He has in public blamed, shamed, name-called and ridiculed Muslims, Jews, Latinos, all people of color, women, disabled people, immigrants and potential immigrants, Democrats and Republicans while only saying “some fine people” about white nationalists.
Trump exercises free speech every day, as should we. If we don’t use that right, we could lose it.
