I was saddened to read that the owners of Friends for Life, Lanny Moore and his mother, June Moore, were sentenced to jail time in addition to fines (“Owners of Makaha no-kill shelter sentenced,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 16).
But I was even more disheartened to read that the Hawaiian Humane Society euthanized 11,000 animals last year.
I find it ironic that two people who gave all they had to try and save the lives of every animal that was dumped at their doorstep are considered criminals while the Humane Society in just one year, legally killed 11,000 animals using City and County taxpayer money and private donations.
