Man, 20, indicted of fatally stabbing father in Waianae
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging Chauncey Kainoa Lopes with murder in connection with Sunday’s stabbing death of his 54-year-old father in Waianae.
Acting Circuit Judge Melanie May confirmed bail for Lopes at $1 million.
Lopes, 20, has been in custody since his arrest Sunday at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.
Honolulu police said they went to a home on Kulaaupuni Street on a report of a stabbing. A city ambulance took Sterling Lopes to WCCHC where he died.
Police said Sterling Lopes was still conscious when he pointed out his son Chauncey as the person who stabbed him when he was in his bedroom. They said Lopes’ wife told them that her son stabbed his father in the back.
