Anyone who has lived in Hawaii for any length of time knows the unions run both the state and city governments. They own the politicians. Jonathan Young pointed this out (“Council bill freezes out non-union labor,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Aug. 14).
City Council Bill 37 would eliminate non-union contractors from bidding on almost all city construction jobs. The only way the Associated Builders and Contractors is going to compete with the construction unions is to give more money than unions do to our politicians.
In other words, it needs to outbid the unions to own the City Council members and the mayor so they don’t vote yes on Bill 37. Outbidding the unions for Council members and the mayor is more important than the bid for the actual construction job.
